Cinnamon and turmeric hot chocolate

Ingredients (serves 2-3)

  • 60 grams of good quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
  • 40 grams of good quality milk chocolate (30% cocoa)
  • 450 millilitres of whole milk
  • 75 millilitres of single cream
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Half teaspoon turmeric
  • A pinch of salt

Warm milk until it simmers together with the cinnamon stick and turmeric. Leave to sit to give the flavours a chance to infuse the milk. Strain milk in a fine sieve to remove any surplus fat. Cut chocolate into pieces, then stir in both chocolates until melted completely. On a low heat, stir and add cream. Once warm enough, not boiling, pour into mug and enjoy the comfort of this unique hot chocolate.

Put the milk, cinnamon stick and turmeric into a pan. Bring to a simmer, then remove from the heat and let the spices infuse into the milk for ten minutes. Strain the milk, before adding it back into the same pan.

Separate the chocolate into pieces and add to the milk, with a pinch of salt. On a very low heat, stir in the chocolate until it has melted completely – don’t let it boil. Once the chocolate has melted stir in the cream. Continue to warm for a few minutes before pouring into your favourite mugs. Then settle down and enjoy this luxurious hot chocolate!
