Congratulations to all you wonderful new parents whose babies arrived in September! Best wishes from the whole New Life team as you start your #newlife as parents and enjoy getting to know your newest family member! 💜

Pregnancy can be a bit of a rollercoaster and you

Pregnancy can be a bit of a rollercoaster and you might find yourself having a rough day or taking an unexpected trip to see your #midwife – or simply needing some #tlc. Having a bag packed with some essentials can be really helpful!

Consider:

💜 A bottle of water – pregnancy is thirsty work, so we’re sure you don’t leave home without this anyway!

💜 Packing some small, basic toiletries so you can have a freshen if you’re away from home.

💜 Remember your regular medications, pain relief and any other medications that may be helpful in pregnancy.

💜 An emergency kit wouldn’t be complete without snacks! Whether you need a quick energy boost, or perhaps something to help with nausea.

💜 A couple of maternity pads are always a good idea, just in case your waters break when you’re out and about!

💜 You may also need a spare pair of underwear – if not a change of trousers and socks too!

💜 Entertainment is a must if you find yourself spending anytime in hospital! If it’s something that can keep you calm and relaxed, that’s a bonus!

💜 A phone charger so your phone is never out of battery when you need to contact loved ones for support, or your midwife for advice.

September is Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD

September is Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Awareness Month, and we would like to take this opportunity to talk about alcohol in pregnancy check out the images for the facts 👆

✨ Once you find out you’re expecting, it is recommended to stop drinking alcohol as soon as possible to minimise the risks it poses to your baby.

✨ With so many great non-alcoholic versions of our favourite tipples, you can still enjoy a trip to the pub with friends – or take something tasty to a dinner party.

✨ Whilst lots of women go off the taste of alcohol in early pregnancy, not everyone does! Ask your friends and family for morale support as you go alcohol-free. This may include finding new ways to socialise that don’t involve booze!

✨ If you have questions or concerns about your alcohol intake, please speak to your midwife or GP. They will offer a non-judgemental listening ear, and signpost you to the support that best suits your needs.

We loved catching up with our Downend class in the summer and their gorgeous babies, born in March and April 2023. It’s always amazing to see you all again and hear your birth stories and how you’re managing the transition into parenthood. ✨
