September is Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD September is Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Awareness Month, and we would like to take this opportunity to talk about alcohol in pregnancy check out the images for the facts 👆

✨ Once you find out you’re expecting, it is recommended to stop drinking alcohol as soon as possible to minimise the risks it poses to your baby.

✨ With so many great non-alcoholic versions of our favourite tipples, you can still enjoy a trip to the pub with friends – or take something tasty to a dinner party.

✨ Whilst lots of women go off the taste of alcohol in early pregnancy, not everyone does! Ask your friends and family for morale support as you go alcohol-free. This may include finding new ways to socialise that don’t involve booze!

✨ If you have questions or concerns about your alcohol intake, please speak to your midwife or GP. They will offer a non-judgemental listening ear, and signpost you to the support that best suits your needs.

✨ The importance of boundaries ✨ You may find ✨ The importance of boundaries ✨

You may find that setting boundaries during pregnancy and in parenthood helps you to prioritise yourself, your baby and your family during an important time. Sometimes, amidst the excitement of a new arrival, family and friends can forget you may need a little space to adapt to your new life!

This is why it may help to set some ground rules or boundaries that help you to stay calm, focused, and protective of your new family bubble. Some examples of boundaries in pregnancy, labour, birth, and parenting might include:

💜 Privacy: Have you decided what information you’re happy to share or not share with family and friends? It may be helpful to remind people not to share information without your consent.

💜 Conversational: Do you want to hear other people's horror stories or unsolicited advice, or are you simply looking for a little positivity and a listening ear?

💜 Physical: Who do you want touching your bump? Who can touch or kiss your baby? What do you feel comfortable with?

💜 Visiting: It’s lovely to show off your new baby – what are your expectations around friends and family visiting? Do you want an open-door policy, or people call first? How long is too long before visitors outstay their welcome?

Talk to your partner, family and friends to make sure you’re all on the same page.

“Boundaries aren't selfish, they're a great way to create the space you need to figure out your new life as a family.”
